Bio
In the summer of '88, Jon Kagan (a handsome little redhead), was born in Manhattan, New York. After moving with his mom to the suburbs of New Jersey at the age of 7, Cosmo was getting familiar with both a new home and a new family. One summer when he was 11 his older step-brother’s friends gave him some honest classic hip-hop albums that would inspire him to write his own music.
By 16 he already had over 1,000 Word documents on his hard drive of verses about everything from puppy love to why the Lakers kick ass, a testament to his passion in lyricism. Always a fan of expressing himself through freestyling, Cosmo would freestyle when his learning disabilities distracted him, whether it was in the classroom or when he was showering. Around the same time he was introduced to the developing underground Hip-Hop scene. This exposure made him feel more comfortable joining ciphers, and by 17 he made both his friends and older heads turn around when he’d freestyle for minutes about everything he saw at that moment.
Although his skill to spit off the top made him more confident as an emcee, Cosmo was much more concerned about making good honest music that people could connect to. When he went to Ithaca College in 2006 he was upset because he just wanted to make music. He promised himself that school wouldn’t get in the way of music by setting a goal to complete an EP before he graduated. In retrospect, college has taught him a lot both academically and socially that influences his music today.
His next goals are to develop his skills as a learning producer, write music for artists in other genres, and continuously work on becoming the best emcee he can be, and most importantly make honest music that can both bring people together with its messages as well as paint who Cosmo is by showing the good and the ugly. Music is love. Come join him with his first project – The Pieces EP.
